Merging Two Confluence Instances

Description: Confluence instances merge and migration for acquired companies.

Customer: US private entrepreneur.

Challenge: After two companies had merged it was necessary to bring all their processes together. The task was to bring confluence instances of both companies together with minimal harm for the working processes. But there were no clear instructions on particular items we had to merge, so this was up to our team to investigate which which features of confluence were in use to merge account accurately.

Solution: The first step our team made was deep discovery and analysis of shared & personal spaces, calendars and other features each team used. Since the teams of both companies were located worldwide in different time zones, we had to choose the most appropriate time for merging the data. Due to necessity of disabling editing functionality while merging (the content was still available via “view” mode),we agreed with the customer to merge confluence instances during the weekend so that there was no waste of working hours. As a result we had successfully merged 325 confluence spaces including all private spaces, attachments, photos, documents, calendars etc.

Technologies:  Confluence.
